    Good afternoon JR,

    I think you'll find I explain it more in future lessons, but the short answer is when you use legacy PLCs it's easier to design screens using Tag Names than it is to directly reference registers.

    For instance, I know an HMI tag named “Start” starts my system, but a legacy PLC address B3/0 really doesn't tell me what it does.

    That said, if you are using a Tag based PAC like ControlLogix, you can definitely skip the HMI Tag creation step. In fact it's suggested you do not use HMI Tag with Logix PACs.

    Again, I think this will make a lot more sense in the coming lessons.
