Shawn Tierney commented on lesson Lesson 25: Serial Comms 5 years, 8 months ago

      Good morning Neric,

I don't have one of the new “9300-USBCBL-PM02” cables, however I would recommend checking Windows Device Manager to verify which Com Port it get's assigned when you plug it in (as shown at 1:50 in this lesson.)

Then, if say it becomes Com 4, when you add the DF1 driver use the down arrow shown near the Com 3 selection at…[Read more]

Shawn Tierney commented on lesson Lesson 12: Retentive Timers 5 years, 8 months ago

      Good morning Felipe,

      Some things to check:
      – Is your rung true? You can put an output in parallel to your RTO to use for indication.
      – Is the ACC equal to the PRE? I.E. Has the Timer completed timing?
      – Is your RTO rung in Program File 2 (Main Routine)
      – Do you have a RES resetting the RTO?

      Hope this helps,

      Shawn Tierney,
      Instructor…[Read more]

      Good morning Felipe,

As discussed early in the course, RSLogix Micro Starter Lite only supports the MicroLogix 1000 and 1100. Which controller did you choose for your program?

Something else to try: Load your MicroLogix 1000 or 1100 file into the Emulator first using the Emulator's own menu. Then go online with RSLogix Micro Starter Lite and…[Read more]

Shawn Tierney commented on lesson Lesson 03B: Windows 10 Update! 5 years, 9 months ago

      Good morning Felipe,

Once you download “6.00.00-RSLogixEmulate500-CD.exe” and run it, it extracts to a folder which you open and run “setup.exe.” So are you seeing the download as an .EXE file you can run? You may need to right click and select properties to see the file extension.

Here I just re-downloaded and tried it on Windows 7 and 10…[Read more]

Shawn Tierney commented on lesson Lesson 11: HMI Tags 5 years, 9 months ago

      Good morning Maitrey,

      Thanks for the update.

I do cover HMI and Direct Referenced tags in PVP Basics, but not with the Micro800 at this time.

Also note that in my article that I point out that Rockwell states it is only possible to browse and select Micro800 Global Variables of the INT, DINT, REAL, and BOOL types.

      As far as other…[Read more]

      Good morning Maitrey,

      Thanks for your comments.

Just a reminder of the limitations of which tags can be read and written to (see the text in red at the bottom of the article) – it's sadly quite limited 🙁

      Good afternoon Maitrey,

      Sorry I missed your question.

I don't currently cover connecting to the Micro800 with FactoryTalk View in PVP Basics, however I do cover it in my article here: https://theautomationblog.com/connect-factorytalk-view-linx-to-micro800/

That said, I know of know built-in way to import Micro800 tags into ViewStudio,…[Read more]

      Good morning waltgp,

Thanks for your question. The two PV800 lessons in Nano Basics aren't intended to be a dive deep into the PV800 since this is a Micro800 course.

That said, you should find the Function Key assignment under the Button Properties (typically on the right near the toolbox.)

You should also find a Multistate Push…[Read more]

      Good morning Nghia,

      Thanks for your question.

You could use the Rockwell Knowledgebase and Sample Code examples to further your understanding of their PLCs:

      Good morning Nghia,

PLC “Core” Basics is a short, low cost version of my 2014 PLC course, and while you might not find B3 bits used in the programs, in lesson 4 I do show the addresses for B3 bits.

If you'd like to try and use B3 bits, I'd suggest replacing the addresses in the first program with B3 bit addresses, and then download and test…[Read more]

      Good morning Maitrey,

Thank you very much for your reply!

I just checked, and since you are enrolled in PVP Basics + you'll get the second edition at no charge as it will replace the PVP Basics + version 😉 (For any students reading this who have PVP Core Basics, you can always upgrade to PVP Basics + for the difference in price of the two…[Read more]

      Good morning Maitrey,

Thank you for your question, which I'll summarize as, “how do I see the passwords which have been assigned to existing users”

Most software these days will not reveal existing passwords, and I just checked my copy of ViewStudio 10 and only see the “reset password” option, with no “reveal password” like feature anywhere…[Read more]

      Good morning Maitrey,

The current edition of PVP Basics does not include lessons on security, however you can add user names, groups, and security codes by opening “Runtime Security” under “System” in your project.

For more information about how security changed in version 8 and up, check out my article here:…[Read more]
