Good morning Doctor7,
Thanks for your question in the pre-sales area. I noticed you're already enrolled, and it looks like you're about one quarter through the course.
To answer your question as to why you're seeing RSLogix 5000 in the early lessons of this ControlLogix course and not strictly the newer Studio 5000, we first need to go back to the lesson about RSLogix and Studio 5000 where I explained that they are the same package, and then demonstrated that fact by opening and guiding the student through both packages so they could see there is nearly no difference between the packages.
The simple fact I explained in that lesson was the main change (from a ControlLogix perspective) in the renaming of RSLogix 5000 to Studio 5000 was that the first version of Studio 5000 (v21) only supported the L7 ControlLogix and its new features.
But in order to address the smaller number of students who do use and program the L7, I did include the L7 in the course, as well as use the newer Studio 5000 versions, where appropriate.
However this is a basics course, and as shown in this course the basic use of the software did not change when it was renamed from RSLogix 5000 to Studio 5000.
Yes, there are some advanced features in Studio 5000 that are different and which I do point out, but this is not an advanced course and I don't cover those topics.
In summary, at its heart this course is designed as one that all ControlLogix users will find helpful, and not a course just for those working on new projects with the L7. And since there are far, far more L1, L55, and L6x controllers in the field than there are L7s (or new L8s,) I start with RSLogix 5000 and then bring in Studio 5000 when applicable.
If you additional questions about the course, please feel free to post them right on the bottom on the lesson your question pertains to,
Thanks as always,
Shawn Tierney
