Shawn Tierney commented on lesson Lesson 4.82: PanelView 800 Part 2 5 years, 10 months ago

      Good morning Lee,

You should find right clicking on the “Screens” item in the tree provides you with an option “Add Screen: to add additional Screens.

And in the previous lesson, “Lesson 4.81: PanelView 800 Part 1,” at around the 4:13 mark you'll see the Serial CIP selection which you'll use for serial connections to the Micro830 via DF1…[Read more]

Shawn Tierney commented on lesson Lesson 31: Backing Up Your Project 5 years, 10 months ago

      Great question CB!

You can use the transfer utility shown in lesson 29 (starting at 3:15) to upload the .MER file as well.

That said, not all .MER files can be restored into an “editable” project using the Application Manager (see the option which appears in this lesson at the 1:00 mark.)

I cover why in an article here:…[Read more]

Shawn Tierney replied to the topic Micrologix 1500 in the forum Pre-sales Questions 5 years, 11 months ago

      Good morning Robert,

I would recommend my PLC Basics Extended Edition course as everything in the course that I do with the MicroLogix 1000 and 1100 can be done with the 1500, except the 1500 doesn't support the free programming software from Rockwell:

      https://theautomationschool.com/courses/plc-basics-ese/

I also plan to add MicroLogix 1200,…[Read more]

Shawn Tierney replied to the topic PanelView Plus – Parameter file / list as course topic in the forum Pre-sales Questions 5 years, 11 months ago

      Good morning Stephen,

      Thanks for your question.

Currently I don't cover parameter files or lists in PVP Basics + as I do in ViewSE Basics, but I plan on adding that and other new lessons to the course this fall, and those new lessons will be free to existing students.

For a complete list of current topics, see the course home page below, and…[Read more]

Shawn Tierney commented on lesson Lesson 10: Project System Settings 5 years, 11 months ago

      Good morning Maitrey,

      Thanks for the info!

I would recommend setting the size to 100%, and then rebooting, and then creating a new application.

If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas of why Rockwell's software isn't displaying correctly on your PC, and would recommend contacting (1) Rockwell to debug why it is their software isn't…[Read more]

Shawn Tierney commented on lesson Lesson 10: Project System Settings 5 years, 11 months ago

      Good morning Maitrey,

Thanks for the info – can you tell me what setting you have in Windows under Display Settings under Scale and Layout – Change the size of text, apps, and other items? Also, can you check to see if your video card has a driver update?

      Sincerely,

      Good afternoon Maitrey,

Thank you for sharing your image.

From what you sent it appears it's FT View Studio system menus like “Project Settings” which are not displaying correctly?

This to me seems like a bug, and something I would recommend contacting Rockwell about.

I've seen similar issues when I have set Microsoft Windows up to…[Read more]

      Good morning Maitrey,

      Thank you for your question.

Back in Lesson 7 I cover the two place to find that information.

At about 1 minute and 46 seconds I show how to view the .MER's settings.

And at around 14 minutes I show how you can edit the currently loaded configuration, however if you have your PVPlus set to load communications…[Read more]

      Good morning Charles,

      Thanks for your feedback.

Since you've already viewed Lesson 51 (importing PLC programs,) what additional information do you think is needed?

Between the SLC-500, MicroLogix, and ControlLogix there are dozens of Analog Cards, and they are all a little different, which makes creating a universal lesson on that subject…[Read more]

      Good morning Meden,

In “Nano Basics Extended Edition” I show how to communicate to the PowerFlex 4m via Modbus (lesson 4.6), and PowerFlex 525 via Ethernet (lesson 4.7), both by using Rockwell's free sample code.

The UDFB (User Defined Function Blocks) I use in these lessons “reads” the Status Bits and Actual Speed, and “writes” to the Control…[Read more]

      Thanks for the follow-up Charles!

I've seen that before – I usually say you need to give the HMI a few seconds to see it, especially on slower networks.

      Good morning Charles,

Great to hear from you. There are so many legacy platforms – which ones are you most interested in?

Below I'll list some of the legacy platforms available – some are much harder to convert than others:

      Convert to View Studio:

      – PanelView (original, aka PanelView 1200) uses PanelBuilder
      – PanelView E (aka Enhanced, 1000E,…[Read more]
